Gas Continues To Fall
And it's all because of wacky, LIE-Brul ideas like driving less and taking care of your car. And all it has done is drop the price of gasoline for 20 straight days. How useless!
The article makes an interesting point about ethanol usage in the United States:
The price of E85, an 85% ethanol blend that also burns cleaner than straight gasoline, fell a penny to $3.132 a gallon on average, AAA reported.
While ethanol is derived from renewable sources, it is less efficient than gasoline. As a result, a car running on E85 would pay the equivalent of $4.122 per gallon to get the same mileage as gas, the AAA survey estimated.
In order for ethanol to really make sense, it has to be much cheaper than gasoline. And we can't do that by converting corn in the United States. Not only is it highly inefficient as a source of ethanol, but it's creating cost increases in food. The logical idea is to import ethanol from Brazil; it would actually be cheaper to bring their sugar cane-derived ethanol to the US than it is to make corn-derived ethanol right here.
But more than all of that, it has been the alteration of driving practices in the US that has lowered prices. And if we all just do a few simple things, crazy things, like driving slower, keeping our tires inflated and keeping our cars tuned up, we can continue to reduce gas consumption.
Ah, but that hits Big Oil's bottom line. No wonder McCain and the GOP are mocking the idea.
